When should I meet with a lactation consultant - before or after the baby is here?
The best time to meet with a lactation consultant is prior to baby’s birth for a prenatal consult. If you’ve already had your baby, that’s okay! We can see you anytime after your baby’s arrival.
See a detailed description of our visits below!
Where will the visit take place?
Prenatal visits are done virtually or in the office. Postpartum visits can be done in the home or one of our offices. Home visits are prioritized for younger babies, but we often have availability to see babies at any age at home. We have 2 office locations - one in North Portland and one in SW Portland.
What is your coverage area for home visits?
Home visits can be done in any area within 20 miles of our business address in the 97202 area code. For areas outside of that range there will be an additional travel fee assessed, depending on where you are located.

+++Note about insurance:
If you have private insurance, many plans do cover lactation care as preventive services, but coverage isn’t guaranteed under every plan.
To better understand your benefits, we encourage you to call your insurer and ask:
“Do I have in-network coverage for lactation services billed under CPT code S9443 (lactation class) with diagnosis code Z39.1, billed as professional services rather than facility services?”
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), many lactation visits are covered without cost sharing, but not all. Some plans classify certain visits — especially baby-focused visits or medically complex care — as non-preventive, which can result in out-of-pocket costs.
Because every feeding situation is unique, visits that involve more in-depth clinical assessment or management may be billed using additional medical visit codes when appropriate. When this happens, coverage and cost sharing are determined by your specific insurance plan.
